Tired of ironing and sewing on name labels?
Most parents recognize the evening before preschool starts: a pile of clothes, an iron that needs to heat up, and a needle and thread for items that cannot withstand heat. It takes time you don't have.
No-iron name labels solve the problem. "No-iron" means exactly what it sounds like: a name label you attach without an iron. Peel off the label, press it onto the garment, and move on. No heat, no sewing, no hassle.
How no-iron name labels work
No-iron name labels are self-adhesive. On clothes, attach them to the sewn-in care label, not directly to the fabric, because the fabric moves in the wash. The surface must be clean and dry. Press the label down firmly and let it cure for 24 hours before the first wash. It then withstands 60°C in the washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher.

Why busy parents choose no-iron
- Fast: label an entire wardrobe in minutes, not an evening.
- No iron and no risk of burning delicate garments.
- No sewing, no needle pricks, no loose thread ends.
- The same label also works on shoes, bottles, and lunch boxes, so you can label everything in one go.

No-iron or iron-on - which should you choose?
Short version: no-iron (self-adhesive) labels are enough for most clothes bought in stores, since they have a care label to attach them to. Iron-on labels are heat-applied directly to the fabric and are suitable for garments without a care label.
Choose no-iron if:
- the garments have a sewn-in care label (almost all store-bought clothes).
- you want to label quickly and also attach labels to shoes, bottles, and lunch boxes.
- you want to avoid ironing and sewing altogether.
Choose an iron-on label (from another supplier) if:
- the garment is entirely hand-knitted and has no care label, such as wool mittens and hats.
- you label socks or garments that will be washed at very high temperatures in an industrial machine.
Lappu only sells no-iron, self-adhesive name labels. We say so openly so you don't buy the wrong ones. Want to understand the iron-on method in detail? Read the guide to iron-on name labels.
Comparison: iron-free vs iron-on
| Iron-free (self-adhesive) | Iron-on (iron-on labels) | |
|---|---|---|
| Attachment method | Applied by hand, no heat | Bonded to the fabric using an iron |
| Surface | The care label in the garment | Directly into the fabric fibers |
| Washing temperature | 60°C | Often 90–95°C (supplier's specification) |
| Best suited for | Store-bought clothes with a care label + shoes, bottles, lunch boxes | Hand-knitted items, wool, socks, garments without a care label |
| Sold by Lappu | Yes | No |
The 90 to 95°C figure applies to competitors' iron-on labels, not Lappu's labels. Lappu's self-adhesive labels are specified for 60°C.
Do iron-free name labels stay on in the wash?
Yes. With correct placement on the care label and one day of curing, they withstand 60°C washing, tumble drying, and dishwashing, and the text does not fade. Many parents write that the labels stay on for an entire school year.

Frequently asked questions about iron-free name labels
What does iron-free name labels mean?
That the labels attach without an iron. They are self-adhesive: peel them off and press them onto the care label in the garment.
Do I really not need an iron?
No. No iron and no sewing. Press the label on by hand and let it cure for one day.
Where do I put the label?
On the sewn-in care label, not directly on the fabric. That's where it stays most securely through washing.
Are iron-free name labels washable?
Yes, they withstand 60°C in the washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher after curing for one day.
When aren't iron-free labels sufficient?
On completely hand-knitted garments without a care label, such as wool mittens and hats, a self-adhesive label is less effective. An iron-on label is better suited in that case. Lappu only sells iron-free labels and says so openly.
What's the difference between iron-free and iron-on name labels?
Iron-free labels are applied without heat; iron-on labels are bonded to the fabric using an iron. Iron-free labels are sufficient for most store-bought clothes.
Do the same labels work on shoes and bottles?
Yes. They stick to fabric, plastic, metal, glass, and leather, so the same set works for clothes and belongings.
How many labels do I get?
One set contains 124 labels and costs from SEK 139, approximately SEK 1.12 per label.
